Certified translations

Graham Sumner is a sworn translator with the Grenoble Court of Appeal, qualifying him to provide signed, stamped translations of official and legal documents (from French to English and English to French).

We are happy to provide these services for companies and for individuals.

Some of our freelance translators are also sworn translators for other languages, so please don't hesitate to contact us with your needs.

In order to provide a certified translation of a document, we generally need an original version of your document. In some cases, this original will also need to be stamped by a Chamber of Commerce or a Consulate. Please make sure you plan sufficiently in advance to meet your required deadline.

Certified translation FAQs:

1. What is a certified translation?

=> A certified translation is a translation that a sworn translator certifies as a true and faithful translation of the original document. He also signs, stamps and dates the document and gives it a unique serial number for the purpose of traceability.

2. What kind of documents require a certified translation?

Usually, this kind of translation is requested for personal data documents (birth, death, marriage, divorce certificates, ID card, driving licence, diplomas, etc.) or for official company documents (company registration documents, balance sheets, contracts, etc.).

3. How long does it take for SETS to complete of a certified translation?

Generally speaking, for personal data documents, you can assume a 48-hour lead-time if you bring us your original document and come and pick up the translation in our offices. If you send the document by post and and need us to send it back to you, please allow ten days. Obviously, the length of the document must also be taken into consideration. To speed up the procedure, we also accept an initial scanned version of your document by e-mail, so that we can start working on it before we get the original (by post or if you bring it in person). For official company documents, delivery time depends on the length of the document. Please contact us for more information.

Please note: some organisations/state agencies may request that you go to the Grenoble Chamber of Commerce to have Graham's signature checked and authenticated, or that your original document has an apostille added to it. Please check if you need any of these before you contact us and plan extra time for these procedures (especially for the apostille, which takes a lot of time and needs to be added to the document before we translate it).

Thank you very much indeed for the reactivity of you and your team - you have got us out of quite a tight spot!

Our offer will be leaving tonight (as too will most of our staff) and it wouldn't have been possible without your support.

I look forward to working together again in 2012, in much more reasonable circumstances!
